Four of Cups

Uprightapathy · contemplation · reevaluation · missed opportunities
Reversednewfound awareness · acceptance · breaking stagnation · moving forward

A young man sits underneath a lone tree on a grassy hill, arms tightly crossed over his chest, his eyes downcast in an expression of bored dissatisfaction. Three golden chalices sit neglected on the grass before him.

Emerging from thin air, a mysterious cloud-borne hand extends a fourth cup directly toward him. He refuses to look up, embodying the psychological blind spot that occurs when temporary disillusionment hardens into habitual cynicism.

Upright

The Four of Cups represents a state of emotional satiety turning into stagnant apathy. Upright, it warns that you are focusing so intensely on your existing emotional disappointments or routines that you are completely blind to a fresh, divine gift being offered to you right now.

Reversed

Reversed, the heavy fog of indifference begins to lift. You are finally ready to shake off your self-absorbed brooding, open your eyes to the world, and accept the new opportunities, relationships, or insights that you previously ignored.
