Ten of Swords

Uprightruin · rock bottom · betrayal · inevitable dawn
Reversedrecovery · resisting ruin · surviving disaster · drawing a line

A man lies face down on a desolate beach, a dark, heavy black shroud draped over his lower body. Ten swords are driven deeply into his spine. The sea is completely flat, and in the distance, a brilliant golden dawn breaks over the dark mountains.

The ten swords represent the absolute exhaustion of the intellectual ego's ability to manipulate a situation. The black sky signifies the end of the night, while the rising sun proves that even after the most brutal destruction, life will inevitably renew itself.

Upright

The Ten of Swords represents the absolute finality of a mental or situational cycle. Upright, it signals that you have hit rock bottom, suffered a devastating betrayal, or endured a complete collapse. The worst has finally happened—there is nowhere left to go but up.

Reversed

Reversed, you are barely surviving a massive disaster, or you are desperately resisting a necessary collapse. It demands that you stop fighting the ruin, draw a firm line under the past, and allow the old cycle to die completely so recovery can begin.
